When you fall in love, plan your wedding, or buy your first home as a couple, you certainly don't think about what will happen if that relationship ends. Separation and divorce are truly one of the most difficult times anyone can go through. The betrayal, the heartbreak, the stressful and tumultuous legal process and the daunting task of starting over, are enough to bring even the strongest person to their knees.

There are so many things to think about and worry about when faced with divorce. Real estate is often one of the biggest. For most couples, it's their largest asset. Figuring out what to do with the matrimonial home and/or figuring out where each person is going to live are at the top of the consideration list for most people.

As a realtor, I help separating and divorcing couples navigate the real estate process in the Greater Toronto Area.

I have personal experience in this space, having gone through a contentious separation spanning many years and involving young children. I know what it's like to live with your soon-to-be-ex spouse in the same household while trying to figure out next steps. • Provide a free home evaluation to determine your home's value in today's market and offer recommendations on any repairs or improvements needed to get the home ready for sale. Knowing what your home is worth and how much equity you have in it, is the first important step in agreeing on what to do with this asset.
• Free staging to ensure the home is ready to be listed, taking special care to ensure potential buyers aren't able to discern the home is owned by a divorcing couple.
• Work with your legal counsel and real estate lawyers, mediators, arbitrators and other professionals if needed.
• Develop a strategic and customized marketing plan to ensure your home sells quickly and for top dollar.
• Work with the couple or individuals to plan alternate living arrangements. Whether one person stays in the matrimonial home and the other wants to find a new home in the same area or both of you need to find a place to rent or buy in the same school district, I will work with you to develop a plan.
• Search for the new home or homes where both of you can start your lives over.
• Provide concierge services to take the stress and worry out of the selling and moving process. Whether you need debt counselling, financial planning, a new mortgage, movers, stagers etc, I will put you in touch with the right professionals to help you every step of the way.
